The team in Fort McMurray is seeking a compassionate, experienced Social Worker II to support children, youth, and families through a collaborative approach with the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre Emergency Department and acute care teams. Reporting to the Manager of Allied Health, this role will also function as a Pediatric Mental Health Navigator, supporting children and families with complex needs through care coordination, case management, system navigation, and transition planning. Responsibilities include early intervention, facilitating safe transitions to the community, connecting families with services, and liaising with schools, government, and community partners. Located in Fort McMurray on Treaty 8 territory and the traditional lands of the MΓ©tis, this role acknowledges the impacts of colonization and respects the diverse beliefs and cultures of Indigenous peoples. The region offers a welcoming, multicultural community with access to the boreal forest, provincial parks, lakes, and rivers.

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
  • Additional Required Qualifications:

  • The following certifications will be required: Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP) and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). A minimum of 5 years experience with children and youth required. Knowledge of children and youth services and applicable social supports required (0 - 18 years). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team required. You must be able to work various shifts.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Connect Care and work within a hospital setting will be helpful in this role. Experience with case management and coordination of team activities preferred.
