Description:

The Acceleration Consortium (AC) at the University of Toronto (U of T) is leading a transformative shift in scientific discovery to accelerate technology development and commercialization. The AC is a global community that leverages artificial intelligence, robotics, materials sciences, and high-throughput chemistry to create self-driving laboratories (SDLs) for sustainable and resilient materials. AC Staff Scientists will advance AI-driven autonomous discovery to address challenges like climate change and future pandemics. The AC promotes an inclusive research environment and supports EDI priorities.

The AC Is Developing Seven Advanced SDLs:

The AC is developing seven advanced SDLs plus an AI and Automation lab. This posted position is for a Staff Scientist within SDL1: Inorganic.

Expertise In The Following Areas Is Desired:

  • Design, development, and operation of electrochemistry self-driving labs
  • Deep understanding of self-driving workflows for oxygen-evolving electrocatalyst discovery
  • Automated and high-throughput synthesis of metal oxide electrocatalysts
  • Automated and high-throughput characterization of electrocatalysts (structure, composition, performance)
  • The Components And Duties Of The Work Can Include:

    SDL and Automation Development:

  • Working with the AC community to determine SDL capabilities
  • Developing SDL plans and designing instruments for automated material synthesis
  • Developing customized hardware and Python software packages
  • Selecting, procuring, and installing required equipment for SDLs
  • Research Direction:

  • Developing research programs that leverage AC's SDLs
  • Using SDLs for synthesizing and characterizing candidate molecules
  • Managing research projects and collaborations with industry partners
  • Preparing research proposals and manuscripts for publication
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry
  • 5-10 years of experience in research and development
  • Experience in self-driving labs for chemistry and materials science
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently
