Reporting to the Standardized Patient Program Manager, the Standardized Patient Educator (SPE) supports the mission, purpose, and goals of the UPEI Faculty of Medicine's Clinical Learning & Simulation Centre (CLSC). The SPE will work collaboratively with leadership, faculty, students, and staff to ensure evidence-based clinical standards and simulation best practices are implemented in all simulation activities.

As a crucial member of the CLSC team, the SPE is responsible for supporting and facilitating simulation-based curriculum delivery in teaching and assessment activities for university and health science student programs. The SPE will apply expertise in experiential education to organize, implement, and oversee the work of Standardized Patients (SPs), including recruitment, training, scheduling, and quality assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with community organizations to promote awareness of the Standardized Patient (SP) program
  • Participate in SP recruitment and selection
  • Deliver initial onboarding training for new SPs
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate SP training
  • Participate in planning and implementing simulation-based curriculum delivery and assessments
  • Provide support for students working with SPs
  • Attend workshops to stay current on educational theory and practice
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in aligned discipline plus 3 years of relevant experience
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to research and present case-based scenario training information
  • High degree of emotional maturity and judgment
  • Certification in Simulation Education required within two years of hire
  • ASSETS:

  • Experience in simulation-based education and training
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and conditions
  • Awareness of a patient-centered approach to healthcare
  • Experience with regional health authorities
