The Technician, Medical Device Reprocessing at the Veterinary Medical Centre is responsible for supporting the sterile processing of instruments and laundry. The role involves maintaining sterility and inventory control in a hospital MDR unit, working in a central service environment with high noise levels, unpleasant odors, and above-average temperatures. The position requires the ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy items, and may involve rotating shifts with weekend hours.

Reporting to the Team Lead, the Technician works as part of a team to provide sterile equipment and supplies for the Veterinary Medical Centre surgical service. Duties include preparing intravenous fluids, maintaining instrumentation, handling surgery linen packs, washing linens, filling supply requests, and assisting with student instruction. The position requires attention to detail, effective communication skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 and a Medical Device Reprocessing program from an accredited school in Canada
  • Experience: Two years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital supply department
  • Skills: Attention to detail, interpersonal and communication skills, computer proficiency, ability to assess situations and set priorities, effective organizational skills, and ability to perform physical labor
  • Status: Term 12-month position with the possibility of extension or permanent status

    Employment Group: CUPE 1975

    Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm, with rotating shifts and weekend hours

    FTE: 1.0

    Salary: $23.35 - $30.61 per hour based on education and experience
